Rules and Regulations

 

Darlington Fire Department rules will govern the races.  Judge’s decision to be final.  Due to river conditions the following rules will apply:

 

●  Cruising Canoes – Any standard canoe where the maximum length shall not exceed 17’.

●  Racing Canoes – Any canoe over 17’.

●  Teams – A team will consist of two canoeists.  Teams may not substitute members after the race has begun.

●  Paddles – Only single blade paddles will be permitted in all canoe events.  Extra paddles may be carried.  Double bladed paddles for Kayak events only.

●  Any team dropping out of the race must report to the race officials immediately.

●  EACH CANOE MUST HAVE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD APPROVED LIFE PRESERVERS FOR EACH OCCUPANT.

●  Only amateur canoeists are eligible to enter.

●  Any team receiving assistance from a bystander will be disqualified.

●  Decisions of judges will be final.

●  All contestants must sign the waiver of liability.

●  All contestants under the age of 18 must have a parent’s or guardian’s consent.

●  All contestants must be present themselves, their craft, and their equipment to the judges prior to the start of the race.

●  Transportation will be provided back to the starting point if needed.

The Darlington Canoe Races will be Sunday, June 13, 2010.  Registration Fee - TBD per canoe.  Make checks payable to Darlington Fire Department.  Starting time – 8:00 a.m. thru 10:00 a.m.  Prizes – will be awarded immediately after each Race Division is completed.

WAIVER OF LIABILITY

I/We hereby waive any and all claims and do hereby release the Darlington Fire Department , City of Darlington, the Race Committee, and the land owners whose land borders the Pecatonica River of any liability resulting from injury, accident, or loss of equipment prior to, during the progress of, or following the race.
